The Reviews

I have ordered this as a text for a university class I teach about professional practices in the visual arts. While most of the examples in the book used to illustrate the need for contracts relate to artists fairly far into their careers, rather than young, emerging artists in a very rural area, I am able to make the content accessible by using examples they might experience in the first few years of their careers.

recommended to me by my art director in our weekly seminar. It has helped me with my business as a calligraphy artist - contracting, how to go about role-playing/assigning tasks on joint projects etc. Get this if you plan on making a n y sort of gain from your artwork.

Odenkirk's book lives up to the promise of its title! This is a must-read for anyone working in a creative capacity who (justifiably) would rather get projects moving than spend time bogged down in the negotiation and drafting of contracts. You'll learn how to figure out when you really do need to hire a lawyer, what all those boilerplate contract provisions really mean, and some of the fundamentals about intellectual property protection and related issues. And all along, you'll have Odenkirk's likable, comforting voice to guide you. Great stuff.

Easy to read and well organized.

A great read. Very interesting and easy to understand. Recommend for anyone who wants to learn more about contracts in the art world.
