The Reviews

This wonderful book arrived this week. I read it in one night. It is full of easy to understand and actionable tactics to sell your art and stay true to your art. It is good for any type of artist, not just a specific medium. It was much more understandable than the marketing class in my masters degree. I would refer it to any artist struggling to grow an art business. I can't wait to try out the tacts suggested. If you are an artist this is well worth the several hours it would take to read it. I suspect it will become well worn as I will refer to it often.

I am reading the book. It certainly is backed up by a lot of experience and provides valuable suggestions and inspiration. It shows the author's passion and honesty and offers the reader a very personal relationship. Reflecting on its content helps me to rethink again the place I am in and the direction where I am going as an artist and a person. I recommend this book to young artists as much as to those who are up to reflect on their carrier, place on earth, and in the communities. Some of the author's advice may be good to follow, others may inspire reflection or be ignored, but even if you are not up to advertising your art 24/7 you may find the book helpful. Simple language and some repetitions fit the "how to" genre and may sometimes be irritating, self-promotion gives a sample of today's advertising culture. You may not agree with every piece of advice, but the book is well organized and full of valuable content.

Living from Your Art is an enjoyable read that's packed solid with practical business advice that WORKS. The author, marketing expert Elie Castonguay, doesn't just talk ABOUT what an artist needs to do to be successful, he offers the EXACT STEPS one must take to begin making a consistent income from their artistic passion. While the author discusses the importance and particulars of pricing and income—in the process, debunking any sentimental attachment we might have to the image of the "starving artist"—he also emphasizes the notion that making money through art is not the ultimate end goal. Instead, he proclaims that the artist's true mission is to share ones gifts while serving and lifting others up in the process. Do those things with care, dedication and consistency, and, says the author, over time, the money will follow.A highly recommended read!

Well written and inspiring!

Living From Your Art, is an exceptional read! I picked up this book and began reading throughout the first chapter and let me say, I am for ever great full for Elie's tips and guidance. The first chapter is very straightforward just remarkable on how Elie envisions his tactics to help every artist become successful. Elie's mission is to provide necessary tools possible for an artist to make a living. Elie offers exact steps right from the start as he begins to explain to his fellow artists to not be afraid, promote their art, talk to people, make a connection with them and most importantly, create a fan base.

This book is a great resource for artists new to the game or those who have been at it for a while! A lot of books on this topic are very hypothetical or theory based. This book is different in that it lays out practical activities for an artist to engage in that can immediately be put to test! I can also attest, having followed the author on social media and meeting him over the past two or so years, that these techniques have evolved from hands-on experience that has proven effective. If you are looking for more tools in your toolbox to start making some coin alongside your craft, get this book.

It gets straight to the point like he’s talking to you as a friend would. I’m building a fine art photography business and this book is a godsend.
