PHP & MySQL: Server-side Web Development

by: Jon Duckett (0)

Learn PHP, the programming language used to build sites like Facebook, Wikipedia and WordPress, then discover how these sites store information in a database (MySQL) and use the database to create the web pages.

This full-color book is packed with inspiring code examples, infographics and photography that not only teach you the PHP language and how to work with databases, but also show you how to build new applications from scratch. It demonstrates practical techniques that you will recognize from popular sites where visitors can:

  • Register as a member and log in
  • Create articles, posts and profiles that are saved in a database
  • Upload their own images and files
  • Automatically receive email notifications
  • Like and comment on posts.

To show you how to apply the skills you learn, you will build a complete content management system, enhanced with features that are commonly seen on social networks.

Written by best-selling HTML & CSS and JavaScript & jQuery author Jon Duckett, this book uses a unique visual approach, with step-by-step instructions, practical code examples and pro tips that will teach you how to build modern database-driven websites using PHP.

The Reviews

I literally have been waiting over 4 years for this book.

Thankfully it’s insanely good, but come on Wiley! PLEASE do not torture people like this ever again.

That said, this book is in classic Jon Duckett form: richly detailed charts, immersive infographics, along with other pretties to keep developers engaged while learning about the inner workings of PHP and MySQL.Like his previous releases, PHP & MySQL is truly a cut above the vast majority of web development books.

Also: it’s extremely difficult finding modern PHP resources that are engaging and educational. I believe Mr. Duckett has set a new standard in what a good PHP resource can (and should) look like.

In my opinion, this book is an absolute must-have for developers looking to expand into the wildly rewarding world of PHP.

The media could not be loaded.  Where do I start??? I won't write a long review here. And I will come back to this review for updates. But I preordered this because Duckett's content is just amazing! And again, I'm impressed. This book covers PHP8 as well, which is even more slick! So much junk code out on php. This is also object oriented, which I appreciate!!What's left? JON DUCKETT, Please give us Node.js, with express and mySql!
