The Federal Open Market Committee: The Important Role In The U.S. Economy's Effectiveness: Concerns Of A Recession

The Federal Reserve System exists as the central bank of the United States of America and, as stated by the Board of Governors, performs five major functions aiming to aid the U.S. economy's effectiveness, as well as the interests of the general public. These functions are, broadly:
- Managing the monetary policy of the U.S., focusing on achieving stability in prices, high levels of employment, and interest rates in the economy for moderate long-term levels;
- Reducing or containing systemic risks regarding activity in both the U.S. and abroad and maintaining steadiness within the financial system and; this is performed through active monitoring;
- The promotion of stability of financial institutions, observing the wider effects of such institutions on the overall financial system;
- Promoting community development and consumer protection through examination and oversight, analysis and research concerning potential consumer trends and issues.
