An undisciplined, story-centric, off-beat, and honest approach to demystifying what it takes to survive in the art world as an artist. This book contains the mindset of approaching the world with your art from a full-time artist. The book is designed to assist you in navigating the art world's cluster-fudge. • An excellent gift for aspiring artists, musicians, writers, creatives, serious hobbyists, art students, makers, teachers, budding creative professionals, and fans of Rafi Was Here On YouTube.

The Reviews

At 65, being an old fart artist (a Fartist?) – I rarely purchase books anymore about being an artist because I figure if I don’t have a handle on it by now maybe I should look for other work.Rafi’s book was a surprising and refreshing exception to my line of thinking. It was delivered 4 days ago and I finished reading it, cover to cover, 2 days ago (I could not put it down). He writes in a very genuine, authentic, and personable way that makes you feel like you are sitting at the kitchen table having a conversation with an old friend. He presents his ideas directly and clearly while maintaining a sense of accessible vulnerability both as an author and a human being possessing a full range of emotions.Rafi’s hard-won advice is grounded in common sense and rooted in his practical experience. All of his ideas along with the graphics are presented in a very organic way so that one topic flows seamlessly into the next. You’ll find no airy-fairy nonsense in this book or abstract concepts that require you to jump-the-ship of your own reasoning. All of it makes solid sense both contextually and in its real-world application. This book made me feel good without pumping me up with a bunch of ego-inflating empty promises or over-used, worn-out positive thinking rhetoric found in so many How-To guides. When he cheers you on in this book – it feels both sincere and deserved. As I stated at the beginning – there is a casual, comfortable sense of friendliness infused throughout this book. You really feel that Rafi believes in you and your abilities when he’s addressing you, which serves as a gentle reminder to then believe in yourself. It’s loaded with practical tips and information including an unflinching look at what today’s “Professional Art Establishment, Art Experts & Renowned Galleries” really looks and feels like from a working artist’s perspective.I highly recommend this book to new artists just starting out, artists in mid-career and Old Fartists, like me, who mistakenly think they already know everything.

The book is chock full of honest and open reflections by Ravi on his, and his wife Klee's, art careers. I read the book (first read) last night and into this morning. I am going back into sections that I want to consider more deeply and carefully, this morning. Yeah, it's that good. I think it's worthwhile to buy for anyone considering making any move in their life that they may seem radical to them... Not just artists! highly recommend. ~ Ev Stanton

Books like this are extremely important. Artists with authority rarely give out any real information. I can only think of a couple of other artists that have produced anything of value when it comes to selling art or getting an art career up and going. Be very careful when selecting books that claim to teach you something about how to be an artist or how to sell. Always verify that the author has a real background in the topics they want to teach you about. Anyone that has successfully made a living as an artist can teach you a lot, but there aren't many that are willing to spill the beans. It's a good thing that Rafi wrote this book.

I've been a fan of Rafi for about a year now, so this is review is terribly biased. Love the point of view of a fellow artist who is blunt and serious and sassy and kindhearted. It all shines through. The only thing I didn't like was something the artist/author had no control over. I've listened to so many youtube vids of his in the background while I create (and my brain knew this was written by him) that I was reading it in Rafi's voice. I DEFINITELY need the audibles version now lol.

This book is loaded with encouragement and advice on adjusting the mindset to be a successful (and happy) artist.

This book was fun, written to both entertain and enlighten... and it does both very well. As an artist, I loved that the book was so useful to new artists who may not know all the ropes, but the book doesn't take itself too seriously. It's filled with entertaining graphics and a very conversational tone. You will feel as if you are sitting down to good long visit with an old friend.

I really enjoyed this book. I highly recommend. Especially if you are in a funk. I think I got my artist mojo back.

This book, Rafi and Klee have been lifesavers!! I can’t recommend this enough for struggling artists! It really changes how you see yourself and your place in the world!

Genuine stories from his own real life experience making a living as an artist, mixed with practical advice and humor. He also gives you a verbal kick in the pants as needed. The hardest part about being a creative is the mental work and he nails this.

This book is fantastic and funny, and you won't feel like you're learning but suddenly you'll know stuff!

A must-have for all artists!

I really enjoyed reading this book - It is a very insightful look into the art world and how to make your way under your own rogue terms - if you are or want to be in the creative world, this book is an excellent roadmap to living your life with happiness and under your own rogue terms!
