Actually, a good deal of the text deals with the history of Warholās life, his lifeās works and legacy ā all of which contextualize past and current āmarketsā and vice versa.The author Ron (Revolver) Rivlin has produced a scholarly work that will enrich your understanding of Warhol beyond what the various documentaries have to offer. I do not doubt that researchers will draw on the content of Rivlinās absorbing work.The text is dedicated to promoting an educated understanding of Warhol and his art. Information about the performance of Warhol art in past and current markets is an intrinsic part of that story and is elucidated here as such. As part of that story, even the information on identifying a real vs. a fake was fascinating.The book contain beautiful picture from the Revolver Gallery collection as well as being beautifully written. The language is engaging and phrases employed cause pause for reflection as when there is reference to ārepresentational imagery,ā āindustrial code,ā āhypnotic cycle of consumptionā and when Andyās admission to hospital ācondemned him to the architecture of his fears.āThere is not a Warhol fan that would fail to appreciate this book whether there is intent to acquire a Warhol or not. For those who would be contemplating such an acquisition, not consulting this book may risk failure.
Excellent read. I will likely find myself returning to this book again and again when considering purchasing a Warhol. This book gives an incredible amount of detailed information on Warholās market; art collectors could use more reports like these, for other artists too. Warhol by the Numbers is an especially intriguing chapter.
amazing. great narrative of andyās iconic story with print market index and updated collector demo information interlaced throughout. the book is visually supported by a outstanding graphic layout showcasing andyās work alongside the textās body. cool getting the state of the union on the āone man art marketā at the crossroads of a new era of art and tech which we all know is a pivotal point in art history. enough said, go ahead and cop this book! is as much of a pleasure to peruse as it is to read and andy would be proud! looking forward to the next one as we continue forward into this new digital art space era! pretty cool proceeds go helping unicef also. in closing the idea is not to live forever, but to create something that will bravo mr rivlin š
This covers a pretty wide range of Warhol's illustrious career. Very enjoyable read with interesting info even as someone who is just dipping their toes into learning about the art movements of this time period. This has a focus on market performance to show his scope of impact on the market of selling art, but also does a good job of covering his personal life and career in general as well. Highly recommend, particularly if you are wanting to learn about the scope of Warhol's impact on the art world in general.
Iām an art dabbler but donāt know any Warhols because Iāve always thought of that market to be one with limited upside. Curious to learn more, I bought a copy of WARHOL LIVES. I read it over a few days and can now say that I have a much better understanding of how the market works. It was well written and kept me engaged. Iām now seriously considering adding a Warhol to my collection.
