What Would the Rockefellers Do?: How the Wealthy Get and Stay That Way, and How You Can Too

by: Garrett B Gunderson (0)

Would you rather earn interest than pay it, and eliminate the necessity of paying fees to banks and jumping through hoops to get loans? Are you frustrated with being over-taxed and/or being dependent on a volatile stock market? Do you suspect that the ultra-wealthy play by a different set of rules than you do, and that their secrets have been kept just out of your reach? What would it mean to you and your family if you knew these rules to play by them too?

The Reviews

Misinformation, promotion of fake professional designations and licenses, lacks real data than can quantify basic arguments. As a a financial professional with multiple designations including the CFP, it’s unfortunate that important subjects like estate planning and the role of permanent life insurance in financial planning were handled with the sticky fingers of an amateur salesman who in reality knows much better. I consider my purchase as money well spent insofar as I can warn others against this sophistry.

This is a long rambling story of one concept of using an annuity to transfer wealth and aid present purchases IF you in the right financial position. This is written to 6 figure incomes and even then the sparse details on why this works are lacking. Another book on financial generalities. The only take away is that this could be useful someday to someone.

The book is essentially selling whole life insurance. The first few chapters were interesting in that you learn a bit about the Rockefeller's and Vanderbilt's. But quickly the book turns into more of a sales pitch and is quite lame. I understand now why i was able to purchase this book for less than $5.

If you are looking for something outside of Wall Street, this is a MUST READ.This book is fascinating and inspiring (which is rare in the financial realm). The author uses the contrast between the Rockefeller family and the Vanderbilt family to emphasize a unique way of viewing money and wealth building. There are some "big picture" ideas that will take time to build, but also many detailed, practical strategies (like the Cash Flow Index) that can be used immediately. I really like that combination of things I can use now, but also understanding how those grow over time. Also, I noticed that some people have said the book is a sales pitch, but it simply shares a different way to look at building financial certainty outside of Wall Street. It talks about creating predictability with your money rather than hoping to out guess everyone else in the stock market, so in that sense I suppose it is "selling" a different idea - WHICH IS GOOD.Additionally, as someone who works in wealth strategy, I applaud Garrett for not trying to create a "one size fits all" plan. Rather he teaches the concepts and encourages you to find professionals to help you apply them to your life. I've seen too many "do it yourself" financial plans that don't work, so not encouraging people to go it alone is a plus in my book.Whether you agree with the author or not, he offers a fresh perspective that will leave you with a new way of viewing the financial landscape. I absolutely love the ideas in this book and have been using them successfully for years - so I know they work - and that may make me biased.

I literally threw this book when I was done. It gave no detailed info at all.

I didn’t realize the book was an insurance sales pitch

It’s a book. Easy read. Nice layout. Very redundant over and over harping in same theme. Whole life insurance as a cash flow vehicle. Could consolidate the info into 1/3 the length.

I got bored and didn't finish reading it

Bought it to give to my clients. I does a GREAT job at explaining how valuable whole life insurance is.

Mr. Gunderson is a no-nonsense kind of guy and his book gives many examples of what to do and what not to do with regards to insurance policies, due dilligence and common sense practices.Enjoyed the book very much. Now I’m reading Killing Sacred Cows by him as well.

Do you know anyone who has lived the retirement of their dreams by using their IRA or 401k funds only? I don't. This book explains how to live the life of your dreams BEFORE retirement AND IN retirement using proven strategies that the wealthy have used for a hundred years. Turn off the financial TV "experts" and read this book.

As I have finally become enlightened at age 55, I feel like Neo in the Matrix. I finally see the truth.Naked and real. The Power of Zero is real. Don't lose money and see how you truely compound. Have a living or death benefit on top of that is priceless.Read books like this people. ..unschackel your minds and unlearn whatever financial information you have been told. Good Luck

Everyone thinks of Whole Life Insurance Policies as a terrible investment. But when you look at them as a vehicle to provide a financing option for your family instead of an investment, it opens up a world of possibilities. Financing for cars, college, homes, business needs, etc....we always have a need for financing, almost more than anything else. Fast access to low interest capital can make a HUGE difference in your life and the long term financial health of your family.

Get this book and study. That’s it.

I'm actually not quite finished but it seems it's an open-minded review of options. With self realized experience.

Very inciteful and well written book

Great Book!

Great book with an even better message.. Wish I had learned about this 20 years ago. But its not to late, even now in my 50s.An absolute page turner if you're in the same boat. Rapidly approaching retirement with only a small 401k to supplement SS.

Great read

Very informative book about setting your financial foundation. These practices should be implemented more.

An awesome book. Filled with a ton of knowledge and different perspective than what is taught through the education system.

I like the information about how they built their family wealth.

I'd never heard anything other than stay away from whole life insurance but this break down has me revisiting what I've been told.It was a good read. Here are my takeaways:- Rather than leaving wealth to the next generation, you can leave them opportunity. You can make it so your family doesn’t have to start over every generation at zero, and instead is able to leverage your legacy to get a foot up in the world.- If you utilize Cash Flow Insurance, and get everything properly set up, you’ll be able to pay for your kids’ college, pay off debt, finance your home or car, start a business, have an emergency fund—and earn interest the whole time.- Cash Flow Insurance has three key points: 1. It safeguards your wealth. 2. It helps you grow your money and increase your cash flow. 3. It helps you enjoy your money today and tomorrow.- Overfunding is done through something called paid-up additions. (There are limits to what can over fund so ask before set it up.)- Interview people regularly; do interviews to stay sharp and inventive and invite the best to speak at events and stay at your house to further the conversation and build more wealth.Best Questions to get to know someone:- What is the single greatest lesson you have learned in your life?- If you could have a conversation with yourself ten years ago, knowing what you know now, what would you say?- What are the most important things in your life and business?- What are the things that work in your life and why?- What do you read and whom have you studied?- Who have been your mentors?- What are your daily rituals that lead to success?

Years ago I was introduced to this concept, but it was not explained very well and critical this would be in my life. I get it now. This book helped give me a greater understanding of how powerful some of the concepts in it are and I've literally started applying some them today.

Once of the best purchases for generational wealth

Perfect book

I recommend you give this book a read!!!!

Very nice read..I will buy again from the author

Absolutely adorable, perfect for putting in a vase with ornaments.

These are so cute. I just received them 2 days ago and I’m gonna put them up tomorrow. I started the red truck theme last year in my home. My son drives a truck as did my husband and being from the Midwest there are a lot of farms. Guess I like the homey feel of family on farms. Must be the Irish County Cork in me, too. Don’t hesitate. Grab them up and enjoy.

We installed these under our house that is on stilts. They are so bright and my husband is very pleased with them. They seem very sturdy and are a good value for the cost

This bulkhead light is highly versatile and can be mounted using a conventional electrical box or surface mounted with external conduit electrical entry. There are four 1/2" threaded plugs on each side for conduit connection using EMT or PVC. One issue is that the threaded conduit access points are a bit under-size and very tight when screwing in the connector. It is not possible to screw in the connector all the way and some threaded portion of the connector is exposed. Another design feature that is a bit irritating is that the light is constructed so that fastening the base to a wall or electrical box fixture crossbar has to be done blind. It can maddening feeling for the tapped hole with the small screw provided with the light. The light is bright (10 watt LED, 80 watt equivalent), but the 5000K LED's are a bit harsh if the light is used in a living area for a prolonged time. Finding a light with 3000K color temperature would be better for a living space. The rubber gasket around the base is adequate to keep water out, so the light is okay for outdoor use. With the threaded knockouts, it is possible to add motion detection and/or photocell detectors to complete the versatility of this light. There is plenty of room on the underside of the base for the extra wiring. The base of the light is made of plastic, but the shield bars are metal and the glass is pretty heavy. All in all, this is a decent outdoor bulkhead light.

I have been impressed with this light thus far, except for installing it on a wall. It is heavy duty and looks great. It is easy to install IF you are hooking it to a round junction box. If you are attaching it to a wall box, you will need to add a round adapter to your square box, otherwise there is no way to attach the light to the box. After this was learned, it was no big deal. Screwing this light fixture to the wall, after the plate is installed, was super easy.I have this light in my sauna, and it bright, but not too bright. Almost a perfect amount of light.

High quality metal lights, not like the plastic ones I replaced. Nice rubber sealed fit perfect for a wet environment. I installed them on the deck of my houseboat. Very bright LEDs. Classy. They look GREAT! Just purchased 2 more for the back deck.

Used to replace deteriorating units. Easy install. Looks to be well constructed. I am adding this one year later. Still VERY pleased. This are holding up very well is a harsh marine environment. I have since ordered four more units. Bright and well made!

Great product, well made but lights are too bright.

It was a great product, however, they were too big for the use I needed them for (DIY bed frame) so I had to send them back which was easy. But a nice heavy product.

Installed 72 of these on my Motel, they look great, gives a modern touch and bright lighting. Shoulda done it months ago!

I have a black Ascender jacket I purchased back in 2016. I’ve worn it 3-5 times a week, 5 months a year for the last 6 years.. I’ve done yard work, mechanic work, and carpentry work in it consistently during that time. I always knew I could i could throw it in the washer and it come out good as new with the same vibrant color. Until the fateful day I wore it while painting outside..Acrylic paint doesn’t come off easily, so I had to purchase another for wearing out to dinner and such.. Now my original jacket is worn solely for work and still; Another few months later, no holes or rips in the fabric, and the cuffs and collar are un-frayed and fit perfect.Amazing stuff!

I bought this jacket as a replacement for my previous Columbia jacket that I seem to have lost. That was a great jacket as well but the outer material was different, more of a nylon woven type of material. This jacket is more of a shell. The design is very sharp, smooth and simple. The material is extremely resistant to dirt. I was recently working an event where the jacket was under a table on a concrete floor for the entire day. I was worried about it getting very dirty, but when I pulled it out there was no dirt on it in spite of there being a lot of dust bunnies. Love the jacket and will replace it with the same kind when this one has lived its full life and moved on to jacket heaven.

I was skeptical to say the least. I’m 5’9” and 330 lbs. so finding comfort without looking like I was fitted by Omar the tent maker can be tough. This fit the bill. I chose 4XL, and it’s roomy but not too bulky.I feel it can be worn in most situations and you can feel confident that you look good.I’m not sure about the performance later in winter, but I think I have room to layer.I am concerned with the zipper, it does have a catch spot that I hope doesn’t become a problem in the future.

I love this Jacket. Comfortable and fits perfect.

This jacket will flex with your movement..taylored to compliment the physical body... perfect length for a 6'5 athletic/ slender male

Great material. Jacket is mid level in protection warmth.

Very nice jacket. Can't wait to give it as a christmas gift

Bought for my husband to wear to work, he likes it!

I’m guessing many of you are looking around for speakers to go with a turntable, or like me, something for my desktop computer. I was a fairly active audiophile for quite a while and wanted to provide some real-world comparisons to a couple of what I believe are contenders in this range of speaker. I had an extended listening session today between The PeachTree M24’s (yes I know it is smaller), the Klipsch R-51PM, and the YU6. The first thing I noticed is the soundstage on the YU6 really beat everything else in terms of width and height. I did not have to toe the speakers in like I did with the other two. The tweeter puts out an aggressive sound compared to the same size tweeter on the Peachtree. The Peachtree is a little more balanced in that regard. The Klipsch are pretty much right in your face with what I would call a fatiguing treble. As I moved to the midrange, I was really surprised by a couple of things. The YU6 tended to put midrange things farther back in the soundstage, so it was not as pronounced as what I’m used to with the Peachtrees. I lost some of the detail out of instruments unless it strayed up into treble where it gained more detail than the Peachtrees. Klipsch had a very flat soundstage to me except the tweeter was really out in front of the soundstage. On to the mid-bass / bass. The YU6 has some funky mid-bass resonance that muddies it a bit. The bass can be a little more “boomy” than the Peachtrees I’m assuming because of the cabinet size difference. The Klipsch was definitely the most “boomy” and had even more resonance in the mid-bass, so I dismissed the Klipsch from the session. So, between the M24’s and the YU6, here are my conclusions. Keep in mind I’m about 4-5 feet from the speakers.1. Midrange is a little recessed on the YU6. I like the Peachtree better there.2. I get a lot more detail from the treble / tweeter on the YU6 without it being fatiguing.3. The YU6 kills the M24 on soundstage in all directions and the change of what you hear is not as drastic when you move closer or farther away4. The M24 had tighter bass to me but again, that may be because of the smaller cabinet and woofer.5. The sub out works great on both – I have two 12” Bic F-12’s and they work great with both speakers although I’d say the F12’s are definitely a better HT subwoofer than a musical one.6. Build quality on both are outstanding.7. I like the larger sound and soundstage from the YU6 compared to the M24.I’m going to keep the YU6 on the desktop for now and let them break in well. I have the Peachtree M25’s coming so that will be a more fair comparison but I’m really curious if the M25’s can match the soundstage. And room filling capabilities of the YU6.Hope this helps someone that may be comparing these two speakers like I was. The YU 6 could be a really great speaker if they could knock out some of that cabinet resonance and push the mids a bit farther forward in the soundstage, but I rate these a solid 4/5.Thought I'd add to this a bit. I stepped back from a long listening session yesterday and thought about the things I heard on each speaker. I ended up putting the M24's back on my desktop. The thing that bugged me most about the Kanto was the cabinet resonance. It's just not there with the M24's. I still like the width, depth, and height of the soundstage with the Kanto but I'd say the Peachtree M24's are a more lively and balanced speaker. Another thing I noticed is that the sub out on the M24's drives the subs hotter, which I like because I can turn down the actual sub volume a bit. The M25's and now the YU4 from Kanto is on the way, so it should be fun to compare all of those.

Excellent speakers. Although I thought they would be better for the price point. Maybe I'm just picky and need to spend more.

I damped down my expectations as the delivery date approached. I sort of expected to be underwhelmed, but I was still excited. Unboxing the speakers was a love affair blossoming. They are beautiful! The build quality is evident. Took about 2 minutes to set up and another 10 to get them to pair with my phone. No big deal, now they pair up immediately. The sound they pour out is rich, and as loud as you want. The bass is very good, my first thought was, "no woofer needed", but of course I have one and that will come soon, but you do not NEED one. I have been playing this pair all day and still cannot get over how good the little b!#%t(*ds sound!! They will only get better as they break inI am thinking I will get rid of my reciever and klipcsh center and sattelite speakers tied up with my TV. Clean up that whole mess of wires and get another pair for that duty. I like them that much

I was a little apprehensive based on the reviews mentioning the bass quality. These speakers sound incredible. Predominantly used for my Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo, but have used the Bluetooth too for digital music and they are crisp and clear. Max volume is more than sufficient for a medium sized lounge. The bass is fine, if you want heavy bass, then a subwoofer would always be better, but I wouldn't say they lack bass as some of the other reviews suggest. Currently sitting in the Kanto floor stands. No unexpected noises either (humming or hissing). Very happy with these and would repurchase.

I got this on the try before you buy - and as soon as I got it and tried it on, I confirmed my purchase. This hat is awesome for doing yard work in. It blocks the sun really good, and the string to keep it from flying away works great, as it does get windy here in North Carolina. Overall a great product!

Hi there. I ordered this for my husband who works outside in construction. He’s not sure about this hat. I think he’s picky. In my opinion, the quality is very good! Nice rim and light weight fabric. A handsome looking hat.Possibly, the sizing runs large.Gonna keep it due to its quality and price point. It would make a nice gift for the outdoors man.

Love this hat. Great for when it’s hot orCool outside. Take it with me in every hike!

Used this hat on a camel ride in Cabo. saved the day because I did not know Cabo is a desert full of cactus, sand and camels. There is probably better options available, I picked this because it’s quicksilver. I would reconsider my options before I purchase again. but ultimately the hat worked as intended, fully protected from sun while drinking tequila in the desert. L/xl bushmaster hat size, my head is 7 1/4 -7 3/8 hat size normally.

Great hat, fits like a glove

A little in the small side for a XL. Hand to stretch it out a little with my hands. Fine now

First of all, the color turned out to be the unexpected favorite out of the four colors I tried(I did Amazon Try Before You Buy with this purchase, trying the oyster gray, steeple grey, nautical blue, and what I ultimately chose, the india ink color). Bought it for an upcoming Caribbean cruise, as well as to use in theme parks. The L/Xl fit surprisingly well, as most of the reviews seemed to indicate they run a little small. It fit my head perfectly however. The depth is a little shallower than I liked, but it still works well, so minor complaint. Very well made, but I would expect no less out of Quiksilver, which I buy from regularly. I would also add that it packs very easily, being that it can collapse nearly or completely flat. Overall, this is a solid sun protection hat for not a lot of money, and is perfect for places that might be windy, given the adjustable close fitting cord.

Got this for a 4 day music festival where there would be very little shade. This hat was perfect for this. Nice and comfortable and did the job perfect on keeping the sun off of my bald dome

i wanted this to have a place to hang my clothes after washing them. the smell of clothes dried in the open air is nice, especially the blankets and sheets. its a bit bulky indoors but still fits inside.

I bought this while it was on sale and I’m very happy with the quality! I feel like it’s priced fairly. It’s large and sturdy enough for me to dry my big queen comforter which was my biggest concern when searching for the right drying rack. Would recommend!

I m really pleased how good this product is. Very light and easy to use.

This is just what I wanted. Very easy to put together. Serves my purpose.

This is basically 2 pieces that unfold and then fit together easily. The pictorial instructions are okay enough that I figured it out in seconds.I’ve got my first large load of clothing items hanging on it in my back yard - I put some items on hangers and other items are clipped to the rack with the included clips. It easily holds the entire load in this way. I suppose if each piece of clothing was clipped adjacent to each other (like a standard clothesline would be) it might be difficult to fit everything on the rack but this method works well for me.The only “surprise” for me is that it’s not a little taller but, to be honest, I didn’t even check the dimensions before buying it. If it were just a couple inches taller it would be ideal for hanging pants without them being too near the ground. Not a huge deal, though. Today is not a particularly windy day so I can’t comment on the sturdiness and I’ll definitely keep a close eye on it when I use it on a windy day. Who knows, if it were taller it might be more susceptible to blowing over.So far I think it was a good purchase and I think it will save some $$$ on my utility bill.

I like the size and I leave it as is. No folding and putting away.

This rack is exactly as it was described. It's sturdy and easy to assemble and stretches out to fit my comforters or quilts when needed. I love the hanger clips too.

I like this item. It is easy to assemble. Have it in my garage. Dries everything well. That's its purpose!

Good read for saving money on loan interest and tax benifits

I can't wait to read into this book.

I was advised to read this book in order to change my mindset and thought process about money. My pastor advised people who struggle to understand money or if you didn’t receive an understanding of money growing up then this book will give lots of education and insight! I’m starting it now to apply the principles in the coming years.

The title of this book drew me in. Once I finally made the decision to actually read it, it blew my mind. All the information about cash flow insurance; the examples on other ways to “save” money and even the sample excerpts from his own statement of purpose. I already had this type of insurance before buying this book but Garrett gave me a plethora of ideas on how to benefit while I’m still alive and not worry about all the red tape that happens when borrowing from a bank or another way to get a loan.I’ve already cashed in on using some of my cash based off of the information provided. Had my money deposited into my account within 2 days.

What Would the Rockefellers Do? Is a great book that provides insight into how influential families generated wealth throughout the years. It also provides loopholes you need to know to do the same. I highly recommend this book for those that are interested in breaking the cycle to establish generational wealth.

Teaches you the importance of self reliance through financial literacy..and how to get knowledge to get out of poverty.. the title is kind of misleading as I thought the book was written by a source who knew the Rockerfellas Intimately...

This book was very informative as it pertains to cash flow insurance policies. Would highly recommend this book to others!!!

Interesting read. Still reading can’t put it down. Have to finish reading it but enjoying it.

This is the 21st-century guide to creating your personal infinite banking system. If you were trying to learn and understand the benefits of owning whole life insurance within your portfolio as an accumulation vehicle, this book explains the benefits and strategy clearly. This book should be required reading material for all life, insurance agents and financial advisors.

If you are doing your homework on financial freedom/generational wealth this is a great book. My Husband finished in in two days !

This book is an essential for every high school, college, wombtress, and man in the USA own and read. MIND BLOWING and straight-forward information that is foundational in building GUARANTEED wealth for self and future generations. On my top ten list for books to read for purpose, success, and happiness.

The central concept of the book is using whole life insurance in novel ways to reduce taxes, protect assets, and leave a legacy for future generations. The authors argue that most people are not taking advantage of the unique benefits that whole life insurance can provide and are instead relying on more traditional financial planning methods that may not be as effective. The book's contrarian approach is both its strength and weakness. On the one hand, it challenges readers to think differently about their finances and consider new strategies for building wealth. On the other hand, some readers may find the authors' arguments to be too simplistic or not applicable to their individual situations. One of the most significant drawbacks of the book is that it can be repetitive. The authors drive home the same point throughout the book, which can make it feel like the same message is being repeated over and over again. Overall, though, "What Would the Rockefellers Do?" is an interesting and thought-provoking book for anyone interested in exploring alternative financial planning strategies.
